Best Parks in Vigo: 5 Beautiful Green Spaces to Enjoy

Think Spain is all sun-scorched plains and crowded cities? Think again. Tucked away in the lush, green heart of Galicia, Vigo is a breath of fresh air—literally. Relocating to Vigo felt like trading concrete for canopies, and I’ve been soaking up the green ever since.

From scenic coastal views to shaded forest paths, the best parks in Vigo offer the perfect escape from the daily grind.

Whether you’re looking for a peaceful picnic spot, a sunny place to read, or just a breath of fresh ocean air, I’ve rounded up the top green spaces that make this city feel like a natural paradise. So grab your beach towel, pack some tapas, and let’s dive into the best parks in Vigo.

Castrelos 

Looking for streams of water, hiking routes, and maybe even a museum? Castrelos has everything you’re looking for and soon you’ll see why it’s one of the best parks in Vigo. Here you can spend the day walking next to streams, finding horses along the paths, and really feel like you’re not in the city even though you still are. 

During the summer there are free concerts in the park. In past years this park has hosted musicians like: David Guetta, Sting, Bad Gal, The Black Keys and so many more! 

Plaza da Minoca 

Off the main green walking strip in Coia is a hidden park inside an apartment complex square. One of the peculiar things about this park is the bronze worm-like statue that runs through the park. In addition to the worm statue you can find plenty of mini streams where turtles and frogs hangout.

For kids wanting to play, there’s a sandpit, swings, and jungle gyms for them to enjoy. If you get tired, you can walk to any of the nearby restaurants that line the park and pick up a bite to eat or a caña. 

O Castro Park

Situated just outside of the city center, O Castro park is known for its hills, walking paths and breath-taking views. Come here on a sunny day and you’ll find people with their picnic blankets sprawled out reading a book and sun bathing. You’ll want to come here to explore the castle or the miniature driving course where kids can test out their driving skills.

Don’t let this park’s long staircase intimidate you from exploring. Lazily make your way to the top using the side dirt paths. If you’re coming with kids, on the south side of the park are jungle gyms, sand pits, and plenty of space for them to get wild and burn off some energy.  

Insider’s tip:

• Nearby the top of the fortress near the roundabout is a cafe that you can stop at to have a drink.

Parque da Bouza

This hidden oasis has a small pine grove to get lost in, a pond, and plenty of grassy areas for kids to play or dogs to run.

If you’re looking to do sports there’s a tennis court and an area to play soccer. Come here during the summer to find concerts and other events happening with food trucks. 

Parque De San Roque

Located in the San Xosé Obreiro neighborhood, you’ll find Parque De San Roque. This off the beaten path park is a must if you’re looking for a little getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although it’s privately owned, this park is open to the public.

Some points of interest in this over 17,000 square meter park are:

• The San Roque estate which houses important examples of the artistic and cultural heritage of Galicia

• The Pazo de San Roque, which is one of the oldest mansions in Vigo (built in the 17th century)

• San Roque chapel & gardens

Fundación Sales

One of the best kept secrets, Fundación Sales, is an amazing botanical garden to spend the day. While not technically a park, it’s a much needed green oasis from the city. Come here and get lost in the different plants and walk on bridges overlooking streams. 

Throughout the year they host events from concerts to markets where you can buy locally made art. Be sure to check out their website to see when their next events are so you can party among the plants too.
